Stefan Wojtas studied piano with Ludwik Stefanski at the Music Academy In Kraków (diploma with distinction). While still a student, he took part in the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow (1966). He was twice a prizewinner of the national piano competition for Fryderyk Chopin grants organized by the Frederic Chopin Society in Warsaw. He is also a prizewinner of the lnternational Piano Competition in Leeds (1969).
He gives regular concerts in Poland and abroad. He has made recordings for Polish Radio and appeared on television in works by Beethoven, Liszt, Elsner, Chopin, Paderewski and Szymanowski. Since graduating from the Music Academy, he has combined a concert career with teaching at the Secondary Music School in Kraków , and from 1983, also at the city’s Musical Academy. His students have won numerous prizes and honourable mentions at piano competitions in Poland and abroad. For the Polish label DUX the pianist had recorded 3 CD’s, containting piano (compositions by Scarlatti, Haydn, Schumann and Scriabin – DUX 0166), Suite “Iberia” by Albeniz (DUX 0167) and also compositions by Chopin (DUX 0509).
He work as professor of piano at the Music Academy in Krakow, where he was honored by the highest prize awarded for outstanding teaching achievements: R.&R. Award Excellence in Teching. He also received the highest award given by the Ministry of Culture of Poland – Gloria Artis Golden Medal.
